Setup

It takes just two simple steps to sign-up for a SuperGreen hosting account: choose a free domain name and fill out an online order form. I completed the sign-up process with ease, but was then a bit taken aback when neither a copy of my paid invoice or a welcome letter arrived by email within twelve hours of joining. I phoned SuperGreen to ask about this and, after waiting on-hold for almost 30 minutes, was told that each account is verified by phone for security reasons. I must admit that I love when hosts do this, though I’ve never experienced such a long wait time. I asked the support representative if I could verify my details with her in order to get the ball rolling, but it turns out that a different department takes care of this. So, I waited some more. In total, it took about 27 hours for my account to be completely setup and ready to use. A bit slow.

Wait times there are about five minutes during peak hours and reps seemed to have no difficulty answering questions about downtime or account issues. You’ll wait between 30 to 45 minutes for a phone representative. Phone reps were slow to shed light on basic problems, such as inquiries about unexpected downtime, and tended to put me on-hold for extended periods of time. Could be better.

Uptime

I use a premium uptime monitor and it continually alerted me of possible downtime. While my site did go down for a few minutes here and there, the bigger problem was that my webpages were so slow to load that it would trigger the uptime monitor to record downtime when my domain was not actually offline. SuperGreen did maintain a fairly decent uptime record, but the slow load times, sometimes as long as five minutes per page, made it impossible for my visitors to view my website reliably.
