StartLogic was formed in 2003 as a shared web hosting provider. Now owned by Endurance International Group, StartLogic offers shared Windows and Linux web hosting, virtual private servers and domain names.

Sales

Sales support comes by telephone or live chat. I connected with the sales team by live chat to ask whether or not account activation was an instant process and, surprisingly, it took nearly thirty minutes for an answer to come. My sales representative simply would not answer the question, insisting that I sign up with him via live chat for a new account that moment. Doing so, he promised me, would waive my setup and domain fees, plus give him a commission he dearly needed. As generous an offer as that was, I found I could not get any sort of sales support by live chat, and the hard sell approach was unprofessional and off-putting. My experience by telephone was nearly identical to that of live chat. Needs major improvement!

Setup

You can sign up for an account with StartLogic by live chat, telephone or online. I used the online form. The setting up of my account was swift and easy, but sign up was confusing. Since I planned to pay on a monthly basis, I was expecting a setup charge, as indicated by StartLogic’s website pricing. During the last page of my order form, however, it appeared the signup fee had been waived. I paid for my account and discovered an hour later, when my invoice arrived by email, that I had actually been charged a setup fee. So, mixed review here. My account was activated instantly and I was pleased with the welcome letter, but the pricing structure and mistakes on the online order form were confusing and misleading.

Billing

StartLogic takes all major credit cards and PayPal. I found the billing department to be easy to work with and quick to correct mistakes.

Pricing

StartLogic’s smallest shared Linux hosting plan, PersonalLogic, includes 60 gigabytes of space and 600 gigabytes of bandwidth. If you pay for that plan one year in advance, the cost is $4.95/month. If you pay for two years at one time, the plan runs just $3.95/month. Both are solid offerings and certainly low priced. Unfortunately, month-to-month plans are less of a bargain. Pay monthly and the charge is $4.95/month, but includes a $30 setup fee.

Reliability

There were no hardware failures to report during a 24 month stay.

Support

StartLogic support comes by live chat, telephone and an online help desk. I had cause to contact support several times over a two year period. The help desk is by far the quickest, with an average 24-48 hour resolution time. Phone wait times are approximately twenty minutes, though telephone reps are less than helpful. On more than one occasion, I was told that a phone support member would call me back, only to get a phone message a day or two later instructing me to file a help desk ticket. Live chat support also advised using the help desk as a means of support, and proved to be less than helpful.

Uptime

I use a premium uptime monitor to keep track of my domains. That monitor showed great fluctuations in uptime, varying from 94.5%-99.9%.
