I purchased a Starter shared hosting account that includes 5 gigabytes of space and 50 gigabytes of bandwidth for $3.95/month (if paying one year in advance). The plan pricing at Lunarpages is more than reasonable, but they tend to overcharge for extras. A website restore, for example, something that is often free with other hosts, costs $75 at Lunarpages. If you only need hosting and won’t require dedicated IPs, shell access or other extras, Lunarpages is certainly a good deal for the money.

Uptime

My premium uptime monitor indicated that Lunarpages did live up to their 99.9% uptime guarantee, though I also did have small bursts of downtime, as highlighted above.

Lunarpages answers sales questions by toll-free telephone number or email. I used both. Sales support by telephone can be a long wait, topping out at 30-minutes both times I phoned, and email sales support takes anywhere from 12-24 hours. I found the sales reps to be very polite and willing to help, though not always well versed in specifics, like what types of servers are employed, what control panel is standard, and etc. Also, while email sales is available 24/7, phone sales support can be hand only during business hours, which they list as 7am-7pm, Monday through Friday.

Support is available from Lunarpages by email, an online help desk and by telephone. I found the help desk to be staffed with smart, helpful staff members who were often able to resolve my issues and questions quickly, while the wait time for telephone support (30-45 minutes) was long, and the staff never seemed to really know how to answer my questions without checking for answers elsewhere.

The sign-up process with Lunarpages involves filling out an online form that is fairly straightforward. Once signed up, I almost instantly received a welcome letter from the company, with all my account information. Nice!

Reliability

|
I was a client with Lunarpages for 12 months. I never had any hardware issues to speak of, but my website did go down unexpectedly from time to time, and with no warning. All these instances were short-lived and not problematic, though I never received information from Lunarpages as to what the trouble was or when I could expect my site to get back online. While overall reliable, Lunarpages lacks the ability to communicate with customers.

Lunarpages accepts all major credit cards, PayPal, checks and money orders. I was never billed for services I had not ordered, and had no trouble cancelling my Lunarpages account.
