Before signing on as a new customer of HostNine I wanted to ask about their money back guarantee. HostNine takes sales questions by email, live chat and phone. I connected with a HostNine sales representative by live chat in less than one minute, and the HostNine staff was able to answer all of my questions in a timely fashion.

I paid for my shared hosting account by credit card and within a few moments I received a confirmation of sale. I expected a welcome letter introducing me to HostNine to follow within the hour, but six hours later, I still didn’t have my new account details. I contacted support via live chat and was informed that HostNine does manual bank verifications and account setup. This means that accounts can take anywhere from 4-6 hours to completely setup. In my case, my hosting account was not fully functional for 13 hours.

In order to secure the lowest rate, I paid for my shared web hosting plan one year in advance. My credit card was billed once, as promised, and I was never charged for services and features I had not ordered.

Reliability

My first six months with HostNine flew by without issue and I was quite content with my new host. During my seventh month of service my domain went down, courtesy of a DDoS attack. An announcement of the current happenings was posted on HostNine’s forums and the attack was brought to an abrupt halt two hours later. Over the course of the two years I maintained a plan with HostNine, I experienced several other DDoS attacks and hard drive failure, both of which were sorted out within a few hours.

While the support team members were polite and very willing to help, they were also incredibly slow to respond to questions. The average wait time for telephone support is 45 minutes and trouble tickets frequently went unanswered for more than 24 hours.
